#VASRP Challenge #1

Hello my lovely readers. Today I am participating in the Virtual Adult Summer Reading Program’s first mini challenge. It’s a great one because it introduces everyone to each other. If you are participating, why not stop by a few bloggers to learn more about them. If you haven’t read my intro post about the program, you can read it here to familiarize yourself with it and maybe even participate.

So, here goes nothing!

*Who you are and do you have a blog/if so, what is your blog?

My name is Hannah. I am currently a blogger at indiereadergirl0329.com I took about a year off, but I am back with a vengeance, trying to blog 5 times a week. Whew. On average it is about 2-3, but I’m getting there. I really missed my blog and connecting with fellow readers, so it is really nice to be getting back in the groove again.
*What are the reading goals you are setting for the summer?

I would like to read at least 17 books, making it to the Spin Bait level, but I really want to make it to book worm level, reading 25+ books. Can I make my reach goal? That’s reading around 3 books a week. I REALLY want to. I am slightly behind this week, but it has been a busy week. I am going to push harder next week. Hopefully my schedule isn’t as busy. Right now, I am reading This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald for a book club I belong to that meets on Tuesday. I am really bad at reading books for book clubs I am apart of. So, this challenge will definitely help motivate me to read the books, and hopefully before the day of the meeting.
*Did you participate in a summer program as a child? What made it memorable for you?

I did! I was a voracious reader as a child. I was constantly with a book. Especially during the summer time. I remember when I became obsessed with Roald Dahl for one summer. I read so much by him. Matilda will always be my favorite of his; and, one of my favorite books I read during my childhood. I loved the reading programs; one because I like to win. And, two, it motivates me to read more. And, let’s face it, when I read, I am in my happy, happy place. I need/like to have fellow readers in my circle of friends. With other relationships, too. My current boyfriend is a reader AND writer which makes me super happy.
*What is something interesting about yourself?

I am a full time crafter. I have a crafting blog, theflourishingcrafter.wordpress.com I even have an etsy store! You can go to it here. I also have a separate website here. I am also a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator. I truly love what I do. Although I do read a lot, and absolutely love it, when I craft I really go somewhere else. It makes me so happy when I finish something I really enjoy. I feel accomplished; and, ready to share it with the world. Why is this interesting about myself? Because I always thought I would be in the publishing industry. Even before I started to blog. It was why I was a literature major. Things change, though. Passions swift. They did for me. I am sure I would have been decently happy at a publishing house, but where I am now, although very hard, I wouldn’t change it for the world. I love making everything I sell. I enjoy sharing it with other people. It’s worthwhile in the long run. And, hey, I get to work for myself. How dream worthy is that?

Thanks for reading!

Happy reading!

At it Again…Another Summer Reading CHallenge

I must REALLY like to be challenged because I am participating in yet another Summer Reading challenge for the month of July. Brought to you by readingwithavengence.com and Bekka from Pretty Deadly Reviews this month YOU set the challenge for yourself. For example: You can post your goal as to read X amount of pages a day or week. For me, I am challenging myself to read 2-3 books a week. I have been slacking on my reading (it’s seeming to be a trend with me) and thought this would be a good push.

Of course, there will be prizes, too, that will be announced closer to the end of the month. What I’m doing? IF I succeed, I think I am going to lightly reward myself. Especially if I manage to reach my minimum goals of both the Virtual Adult Reading Program and this. I can do it! Right? Please tell me I can do this. 🙂

Updates, as per rules, will be posted on Saturdays so keep on a lookout for that.

Happy reading!

Hooked on Reading… 2016 Virtual Adult Summer Reading Program

This summer Octavia from Read. Sleep. Repeat. and Valerie from He Said Books or Me is sponsoring 2016 Virtual Adult Summer Reading Program (#VASRP) for the first time. This reading program/challenge seems as though it would be really fun. The topic for this year’s program is “Get Hooked on Reading” which is a great first tagline for a program like this. The reading levels are varied, and have, of course catchy titles.

Guppy Read 1 to 5 books
Minnow Read 6 to 10 books
Fishing Jig Read 11 to 16 books
Spin Bait Read 17 to 24 books
Book Worm (ha get it!) Read 25 or more books

I’m aiming for Spin Bait Read to (hopefully) Book Worm. I would like to read at least 25 books. My goal this year was 30 books in total; but I want to go over that to at least 52. Always have a reach goal. It makes for a great sense of accomplishment when you reach that bonus mark. It’s truly rewarding.

I also have a hefty list of books I would like to read soon; and for this month alone. I have ten books, at least, I want to read. I am a little behind on my goal, but I think I can catch up. I’m a fast reader.

I am really excited for this program as I miss my old summer reading program. I remember always succeeding, sometimes exceeding. Reading is truly a passion one should not give up on. You get so much out of it–if you really pay attention that is.

I hope you join in this amazing program/challenge. There will be fun prizes and challenges throughout. Keep an eye out for my posts on challenges one and two coming up shortly.

Happy reading!

It’s Been a While…Getting back to reading with Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon

DEWEY's

I just remembered that Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon is back! This biannual readathon is great for people who can’t commit to a whole week’s worth of challenges, schedules, and times etc. It’s also perfect if you are just getting back into reading–like me. Today was the first time I cracked open a book since February 18th! That’s a little over two months! By far not the longest stretch I’ve gone through, but still. It’s big enough.

I can finally commit to reading; if even just a little. My To-do list is still pretty big. But, with my Saturday plans now changed due to unforeseen circumstances, I am now free to participate. I am looking forward to it. Dewey’s readathon is truly great. If you haven’t participated in one yet, maybe make this one your year.

I will try to update throughout the day, tomorrow here and on twitter. If you don’t follow me on twitter yet, you can find me at @indiereadergirl. I have been silent on it for a long time. But, will resurrect it because of this challenge. And, will try to continue to use it from now on. As you know, though, with running TWO businesses, life gets pretty hectic for me. You can see that in my non-existent posts this last year.

I’m tryin’, I’m tryin’.

So, stayed tune for this weekend with me! I hope you join in on the fun.

If you are looking to fill your ereader, head over to Good Books and Good Wine for a great post on deals for your kindle, with most books on the list $5 or under.

See ya soon!
