The Swans of Fifth Avenue by Melanie Benjamin
- read 240 pages. Was at around 100 when started readathon.
The Six Creepy Stories of Edgar Allan Poe
- audiobook– time 1 and a half hours+
The Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare
- audiobook– time 1 hour and 49 minutes

Books currently reading:

After Alice by Gregory Maguire (print)
William Shakespeare Selected poetry (print)

Pages read: 290

Hours spent listening to audio: 3 hours and 19 minutes

The question is what are your readblocks? What stops you from reading? This is a perfect question for me, considering the slump I have been in. Plus, ignoring my blog for so long.

I have found myself not making time for reading. I get too caught up *building an empire* that I don’t want to commit the time to read, review, and blog. I don’t want to get caught up in reading. It’s really bad. This readathon has opened my mind up again; causing me to hunger for the written/spoken word. I’m very glad I am participating today.

My swan, you are missing such a journey! Truman is a trip of course! Always speaking of you, of course. We have just stopped at Savannah. Oh, how grand! The balls that Truman gets us into! We’ve seen Clark, Frank, and even Slim! Oh, how we wish you were here.

I can’t help but want to rock out to Saint Motel’s Just my type. You can find the video Saint Motel–Just my type music video. The book I am reading is about author Truman Capote and his “Swans”, particularly Babe “Bobolink” Paley. I chose this song because after Truman’s relationship with Jack D. ended, he slept with any man. Even an air conditioner repairman that his Swans didn’t like. Basically, as the lyrics state “You are just my type. You have a pulse and are breathing,” that were the only late requirements for Truman.

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

I am reading in Northern NJ, but Paris sounds more fun.

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

Not sure. I haven’t exactly picked a stack of books. It’s more as I go along. I think I am going to read After Alice by Gregory Maguire. I’m excited about that.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?

Corn puffs! I love these corn puffs I get that is fluffy, yet crunchy popcorn like pieces with rice in it. So yummy. I already finished a bag yesterday.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!

I am twenty-seven years old living in Northern NJ. I am currently an occasional book blogger, although after this Readathon, I am going to try to be active more. I am the owner of Flourishing Crafter, a handmade paper goods shop. You can shop and browse at http://www.flourishingcrafter.com or on etsy at http://www.etsy.com/shop/flourishingcrafter.

I love to read YA contemporaries, YA romance, and Historical Fiction, particularly those of strong women. One of my favorites is still Lady of the Butterflies by Fiona Mountain about the first woman who studied butterflies in the seventeenth century.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?

This will be my second or third one. I definitely will try to read more, participate throughout, and not get so distracted by life–just for one day.

It’s Been a While…Getting back to reading with Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon

I just remembered that Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon is back! This biannual readathon is great for people who can’t commit to a whole week’s worth of challenges, schedules, and times etc. It’s also perfect if you are just getting back into reading–like me. Today was the first time I cracked open a book since February 18th! That’s a little over two months! By far not the longest stretch I’ve gone through, but still. It’s big enough.

I can finally commit to reading; if even just a little. My To-do list is still pretty big. But, with my Saturday plans now changed due to unforeseen circumstances, I am now free to participate. I am looking forward to it. Dewey’s readathon is truly great. If you haven’t participated in one yet, maybe make this one your year.

I will try to update throughout the day, tomorrow here and on twitter. If you don’t follow me on twitter yet, you can find me at @indiereadergirl. I have been silent on it for a long time. But, will resurrect it because of this challenge. And, will try to continue to use it from now on. As you know, though, with running TWO businesses, life gets pretty hectic for me. You can see that in my non-existent posts this last year.

I’m tryin’, I’m tryin’.
